I’m kind of in a situation, where I might have to put my creativity on a back burner again for a while, and this song just feels right for that type of circumstance. I’ve wanted to cover Heart of an Artist for a while now. Especially when I was alone so I could headbang and sing along. Needless to say, I listened to it a lot at work during the rest of the year. It was like a punch in the face, like the song was made specifically for me in that situation. I so angry, frustrated and betrayed.Īnd then one day Spotify randomly played Heart of an Artist. They wanted my muscles, they wanted me to just walk and pack things faster. They made it very clear that they really didn’t want my brain, my education or creative skills.
When I asked for more creative work the answer from the manager was “No. By the time I heard it, it had already become painfully obvious that all the talk of any kind of creative work I could do - marketing, photography, videos etc. The song came out during the time I was working in a warehouse - and feeling miserable. Heart of an Artist is one of the songs that have a very special place in my heart. I’ve been wanting to learn this for a while now, so I decided to make it a birthday special.
